Montana Campus Compact (MTCC) invites applications for an AmeriCorps VISTA Program Specialist to join their team. The AmeriCorps VISTA Program Specialist is a grant-funded position and is responsible for co-leading candidate recruitment for MTCC’s AmeriCorps National Service programming, training implementation and program evaluation for the MTCC AmeriCorps VISTA program. The role works as part of a team, with significant responsibility and leadership roles. MTCC hosts approximately forty AmeriCorps VISTA members each year, including yearlong and summer members serving throughout Montana in the areas of capacity building for MTCC’s signature anti-poverty work, including postsecondary education access, college completion, and climate resiliency.

The AmeriCorps VISTA Program Specialist co-leads a robust candidate recruitment processes for AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA programs, in conjunction with AmeriCorps Program Specialist, including;

  • Spearheads local, regional and statewide marketing and outreach
  • Creates web-based opportunity posts and advertising (via AmeriCorps.gov, social media channels, mtcompact.org, Peace Corps, Compact.org, idealist, etc.)
  • Writes and submits service opportunity listings within the Egrants management system, communicating with the funder for ensure approval
  • Holds new applicant intake interviews, reference checks, assignment to service sites, marketing, etc
  • Communicates and cultivates relationships among faculty and staff from postsecondary academic programs which share focuses with the AmeriCorps VISTA program (e.g., English, history, community engagement, environmental studies, Native American Studies, Political Science, etc.)
  • Seeks out and secures new and appropriate avenues for candidate recruitment
  • Manages all logistical needs for VISTA-related training and special programmatic events, including
  • Leads semi-annual Community Building Institute, including presenter recruitment, publicizing the event, registration, and the University of Montana Micro-credentialing process
  • Researches negotiates, and secures contracts with vendors/professionals for goods and services
  • Co-leads all logistical needs for joint AmeriCorps member in-person and virtual training events in conjunction with AmeriCorps Program Specialist
  • Evaluates the AmeriCorps VISTA program for efficacy and success of the interventions outlined in the AmeriCorps VISTA grant
  • Recruits, trains, and supervises work-study students each academic year

Required Skills

  • Professional experience in a nonprofit and/or higher education setting;
  • Program and/or project leadership and management experience;
  • Strong organizational skills;
  • Understanding of adult learning theory, situational leadership, and effective facilitation;
  • Knowledge of volunteer recruitment;
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, including excellent public speaking skills and the ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations and stakeholders;
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency with office hardware (computers, telephones, printers, scanners) and software, including the following Microsoft products: Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher and Access;
  • Ability to work in a team setting;
  • Knowledge about Montana culture and communities, including experience in the higher education and nonprofit sectors;
  • Ability to travel throughout the state;
  • Ability to work independently and maintain consistent office hours, between 8:00 AM and 5:00PM, Monday through Friday, throughout the calendar year (including summers).

Minimum Required Experience

  • High School diploma and two (2) years’ experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, social science, public administration, or a related field
  • Two (2) years of relevant work experience
  • National Service (i.e. AmeriCorps, VISTA, Peace Corps) experience
  • Evaluation experience

Position Details

Position Title: AmeriCorps VISTA Program Specialist (Program Coordinator II)

Position Number: NEW

Department: Montana Campus Compact

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year

Salary: $17.085/hr- Current employee’s rate of pay for this position will be determined by the staff compensation plan and will minimally be this posted salary. For questions and details regarding the staff compensation plan, email the Compensation Department .

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
