Position Summary: UM TRIO Upward Bound is funded by the U.S. Department of Education to provide the requisite academic skills and motivation that qualifying students will need for success in postsecondary education. We work with students from the Blackfeet Nation and Missoula County schools. Throughout the school year, Upward Bound offers after-school mentoring in each of our target high schools, volunteer opportunities, monthly workshops on topics related to high school success and postsecondary enrollment, and tours of area colleges during fall or spring breaks. During our six-week residential STEM-focused Summer Academy, students live on campus, take courses to prepare for the upcoming school year, and participate in a variety of fun activities.
The Residential Advisors contribute to the students’ development and motivation by encouraging them to work toward their potential, inform them about educational opportunities, and serve as an example of a successful student. To qualify as a Residential Advisor one must have prior experience mentoring youth. A valid driver’s license is highly encouraged. Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, transporting students to activities, supervising students in the evening and at night, planning activities and engaging youth in a variety of enriching activities, and providing mentoring and homework assistance.
