Following are MTCC’s National Service 10-Week Summer Associate positions listed by city. Service begins on June 7, 2021 and ends August 15, 2021.

Bigfork ACES Inc.

This summer help maintain a summer garden and represent ACES with Bigfork Aces, Inc. Bigfork ACES’ vision is to encourage each child to pursue and achieve their highest personal potential. The goal of this Summer Associate project is to provide healthy, nutritious meals to the youth of Bigfork along with enrichment activities that will help prevent summer learning loss. This will be accomplished through the SFSP meals program and careful program planning that will include; academic enrichment, STEM, Indian Education, sports and recreation, health and nutrition and community service. By offering nutritious meals and family support for working parents we will help parents keep their jobs, make more money and relieve the stress of feeding their children. Apply!

United Way of Yellowstone County

The Summer Associate VISTA will be responsible for direct and indirect service actions to “open up” Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC), a proven, community-based, service learning program for youth ages 11-18, after, a near complete shut down as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Summer Associate will stabilize the YVC program, along with the involvement of YVC youth, and position it for growth and sustainability by ensuring meaningful service learning opportunities and strengthening its infrastructure in order to serve a larger, more diverse membership and increase the benefits their service provides to others. The overall goal of this project is to build the social, emotional and other non-cognitive skills of youth, ages 11-18, to prepare them for success in school, work, and life through quality, service learning experiences that also increase their awareness of community needs and instill an ethic of service by successfully opening up Youth Volunteer Corps following a COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. Gallatin Valley Farm to School

The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate will support and lead STEM-based programming for youth in the Gallatin Valley and surrounding areas. The member will engage with youth during our Summer Farm to School camps, offering them support, mentorship, helping to lead STEM-based learning activities, as well as assisting with administrative tasks that are essential to the activities. The member will also assist in the implementation of a family cooking night program and communicate about the program with low-income community members through channels including social media. Gallatin Valley YMCA

The Gallatin Valley YMCA (GVYMCA) is a cause-driven inclusive organization of men, women and children joined together by a shared commitment to nurture the potential of every child and teen, improve our community’s health and well-being, and by giving back and providing support to our neighbors. Their belief is that by opening our doors and bringing people together through participation in quality programs, we will ultimately not only enrich the lives of each individual, but also strengthen the foundation of our community. The Summer Associate will be responsible for creating and implementing age appropriate STEM activities in accordance with the weekly theme for groups of 24 kids at up to 9 different locations of summer camps and programs around the Gallatin Valley. Each week the projects will include Chemistry, entomology, engineering, plant science paleontology, earth science or other scientific fields. Additionally, the Summer Associate will be responsible for planning, organizing and hosting an annual Invention Competition where youth are welcome to create and present an invention in one of half-a-dozen STEM related categories. Human Resource Development Council District IX

The Human Resource Development Council District IX in Bozeman, MT aims to provide programs and services in the areas of housing, food and nutrition, child and youth development, senior empowerment, transportation, energy assistance, and community development. As a Summer Associate, you will play an integral role in preparing and providing support to our twelve meal sites through Gallatin County. This includes meal prep and production, record keeping, meal service, site supervision, and volunteer support. Additionally, the Summer Associate will assist in capacity building for expansion into the Three Forks area. Apply!

Cottonwood ALC

Support the Cottonwood Agile Learning Community (ALC) summer camp program as they help learners ages 3-18 foster curiosity, plat, trust, respect, equity, and autonomy. As the Summer Associate, you will act as a model and mentor to young learners by engaging them in self-directed learning activities; support other facilitators in activities; lead end-of-day experiences; coordinate and plan field trip activities; and assist in administrative tasks while serving as a strong point of communication support between staff, learners, and parents. ExplorationWorks

Serve this summer at ExporationWorks and inspire disadvantaged youth with a love of science! Your service will help to inspire participants to pursue STEM careers, increasing their likelihood of attaining a college degree. As the Summer Associate, you will provide hands-on STEM programming for K-12 children in Helena, East Helen, Montana City, Clancy, and Boulder areas (COVID-19 conditions may limit activities to the Helena area); increase the visibility of ExplorationWorks by partnering with local organizations and attending community events to deliver hands-on STEM learning; recruit and support volunteers; and promote the Family Access Membership program which will increase access to the museum for underserved families. Boys and Girls Club of Cascade County

The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate will support the Boys and Girls Club of Cascade County’s summer meal program as it makes fresh, healthy meals available to all kids when school is not in session. The member will work to increase awareness of the meal program by canvassing low-income neighborhoods and sharing informational materials with a variety of local businesses. The member will provide support in meal preparation and distribution at meal sites and the local food pantry. The member will also accurately track data associated with the distribution of meals. Fresh Rescue Community Kitchen

The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate will support the Fresh Rescue Community Kitchen in educating K-7 summer school students in growing, preparing, eating and processing their own fresh food for delivery to food insecure/low income youth and families. The member will facilitate the development and delivery of daily curriculum to students, including on the topics of growing food, cooking, sanitary food handling, and healthy exercise. They will participate in basic food preparation and cooking procedures at the Community Kitchen. They will support the community garden by practicing good gardening methods related to planting, composting, watering, pollinator support, etc. Apply!

Get Fit Great Falls

Help mentor and feed children this summer by serving with GetFit Great Falls. GetFit Great Falls promotes the benefits of healthy lifestyles to the citizens of Great Falls and Cascade County through a unified community effort that encourages cultural and systemic change. The Summer Associates, also known as Park Pals, will coordinate with the local school district’s food truck, which brings meals to hungry kids during the summer, and the Bookmobile, which  brings books to those same children at similar locations. While being served lunch, children will be engaged physically and mentally by the Park Pals through activities designed to enrich them. In doing so the Park Pals will help end the educational backslide many disadvantaged children undergo during the summer months. Apply!

KALICO Art Center

Serve this summer at ExporationWorks and inspire disadvantaged youth with a love of science! As the Summer Associate, you will work with KALICO’s executive director to deliver high-quality visual art lessons; write lesson plans that incorporate National State Standards; make improvements to KALICO’s class registration process; and engage in outreach activities that increase awareness of the KALICO summer program; and assist in other daily operations. Boys and Girls Club of Missoula County

The AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate will support Summer Club activities at the Boys and Girls Club of Missoula County by assisting full-time staff in delivering high-quality, engaging, and fun programming to our participants by co-creating an empowering culture of emotional and physical safety. The member will arrive prepared for daily duties, prepared to follow the Club’s policies, procedures, and code of ethics. The member will supervise and support all participants through positive, playful, and active participation. They will maintain a consistent behavior management system. Families First Learning Lab

Serve with the Families First Learning Lab at the Missoula Public Library, and work to expand their learning kits program that impact families in communities including Missoula, Pablo, Arlee, and Seeley Lake. As the Summer Associate, you will work to develop new kits and create new activities to include; assemble kits for distribution; collaborate with partners and share information with the community to expand awareness of the program; help to deliver educational programs through the library and interact with children and parents; and help to maintain library exhibits. Missoula Food Bank & Community Center

Help run Missoula Food Bank Summer Meal Service Program, as you play a vital role in making healthy food accessible to all Missoula kids in a stigma-free, fun, and educational environment. As the Summer Associate, you will primarily focus on working with volunteers to prepare nutritious meals; seeing to daily paperwork needs; and making the meal sites engaging, educational, and fun by coordinating with partnering organizations to offer activities. The Missoula Food Bank & Community Center’s mission is to lead the movement to end hunger in the Missoula community through activism, volunteerism and healthy food for all. Apply!

YWCA Missoula

The mission of GUTS! (Girls Using Their Strengths) program is to support girls and gender diverse youth in discovering their strengths, developing their leadership skills and using their voice to create community change through mentoring, small group discussion, skilled trades workshop and outdoor adventures. Their new program, Youth Services, is dedicated to providing therapeutic and recreational opportunities to youth residing in the Family Housing Center and Pathways Domestic Violence Shelter. The VISTA will have responsibilities in both the GUTS! and Youth Services Program. As a Summer Associate, teach, lead and mentor program participants ages 9-19 in STEM-related educational activities and outdoor leadership. The Summer Associate will be working to support the existing GUTS! Summer Outdoor Adventure program by planning, implementing and evaluating the new day camp model created to accommodate Covid-safe programming. The Summer Associate will also assist in implementing youth programming for the Missoula Family Housing Center and Pathways Domestic Violence Shelter. Finally, the Summer Associate will work with YWCA staff to integrate climate change and place-based education, including Indigenous knowledge and history, into the GUTS! summer outdoor trips and Youth Services program offerings. Zootown Arts Community Center

Serve with the Zootown Arts Community Center (ZACC)! The ZACC is a nonprofit art center providing accessible arts experiences for all through education, exhibitions, and events. Summer programs at the ZACC are designed to build confidence, foster creativity, and build strong relationships with the community, all things that are proven to increase youth’s chances at pursuing a college education. The Summer Associate will help mentor youth in over 20 summer art programs while providing college and high-school students with meaningful service and community engagement activities. Apply!
