Greater Gallatin United Way KidsLINK
This summer serve with the Greater Gallatin United Way’s KidsLINK and help children in the Gallatin Valley. Greater Gallatin United Way’s (GGUW) mission is to improve lives by mobilizing the caring power of our communities by identifying priority needs, forming innovative partnerships, finding new solutions to old problems, securing resources, and inspiring individuals to join the fight against our communities’ most daunting challenges. Research shows that kids who regularly participate in quality out-of-school time programs have increased school-day attendance and perform better in school, which leads to reduced chances of poverty in the future. The primary purpose of this AmeriCorps VISTA project is to increase the sustainability and quality of Greater Gallatin United Way’s Belgrade Middle School Summer Camp. The Summer Associate will help plan activities and lead group events, monitor kids, and respond to incidents, such as behavioral problems or accidents, log events, and maintain records relating to activities, and discuss camper participation and concerns with parents and other camp staff members. Human Resource Development Council District IX
Help fight hunger this summer with the Human Resource Development Council District IX. HRDC is a non-profit Community Action Agency providing programs and services in the areas of housing, food and nutrition, child and youth development, senior empowerment, transportation, energy assistance, and community development. Summer Associates will play an integral role in preparing and providing support to our twelve meal sites through Gallatin County. This includes meal prep and production, record keeping, meal service, site supervision, and volunteer support. Access to meals in the summer months can be a hurdle for kids and their families. Providing accessible summer meal sites with educational activities not only supports a child’s nutritional needs, but it also helps children fight the “summer slide” effect. Over the summer many young people and their families lose access to critical supports that keep them safe, healthy, and engaged in learning. Summer Associates will support the production and distribution of summer meals which will directly assist families and ensure children have access to meals with fresh fruits and veggies even when parents may be at work.
