Benefits of Full-Time Service with Montana Campus Compact
Joining the MTCC National Service Program is about making a tangible difference for people and communities across Montana. Our members address critical issues in our state such as poverty, educational inequality, and services for veterans. In addition to making an impact in communities and with people, you’ll receive the following benefits:
Financial Support: Full-time MTCC National Service Members receive a modest bi-weekly living allowance to ensure that their basic needs can be met. They are also eligible for health insurance coverage, childcare assistance and relocation assistance. Members also receive a $6,195 Segal Education Award upon successfully completing their service term. This award may be used to pay off college loans or for future education. Many colleges in Montana match the Education Award up to $1,000 per academic year.
Professional Development: All full-time MTCC National Service members participate in Pre-Service Orientation, a Fall Training, the Community Building Institute, and End of Service Training. All trainings except the Community Building Institute are held in-person, and are opportunities to learn and reflect with the entire cohort of MTCC National Service members. Trainings focus on information specific to service, life after service, and how to engage with Montana communities. Members are also provided with site-specific training when they begin service at their host site. Throughout the year, MTCC AmeriCorps State members meet weekly over video conferencing, and are trained on college access and success related topics. VISTA members meet monthly over video conferencing and are trained on capacity building topics.
Beyond training opportunities, service with MTCC is a valuable opportunity to develop and strengthen professional skills that will benefit them in future positions. All MTCC National Service members are eligible for hiring preferences at Employers of National Service locations, and MTCC VISTA members are eligible for Non-Competitive Eligibility.
Supportive Cohort Experience: During your service year, MTCC provides ongoing support and guidance through dedicated staff, regular trainings and visits to your site/community. You’ll also become part of the MTCC National Service cohort – many of our members leave their service year with life-long friendships and memorable experiences with other MTCC National Service members. Finally, you’ll become a part of the nationwide AmeriCorps Alumni Network, where you can continue to engage with service after your time with MTCC.
